What a heartbreak of a story. Beautifully done, Bill.

Thank you, Martine. My eyes were foggy when I fished writing "Ella."

What a story!!

Lucky Ella

Thank you, Deirdre. Maybe time travel has to work that one: Somebody wins and does not. But in a fashion they both won.

So well done Bill. That was mind-bending and I'm envious of your vivid imagination. Not sure I could write a time travel story. - Jim

Thank you for your kind words, Jim. I love reading and writing time travel tales -- they're always great adventures.

Wow. This was too complicated for "happily ever after," but it was the right ending. So sad, so tragic, but I love this story. Thank you.

Bill Adler's avatar

Thank you, Jeannine. It took time to figure out the ending, but I think it's the one that had to be. I'm glad you liked the story.

It's mesmerizing. I raced through it!

Thank you, Mark. I enjoyed writing "Ella" and I'm glad you liked it.

Excellent story Bill! It’s easy to imagine this being built out into a feature-length film or series. 😀👍

Thank you, Peter. From your lips to Netflix! :)

Thanks for this, Bill! I've just read it through and really enjoyed it. Brings back memories of home, actually. Thanks for sharing your story!

My pleasure, Maya. I'm glad you enjoyed "Ella." I grew up in New York City, too, though not in the 1860s.

Great story! I started the story then stopped. Went through my other e-mails and when I got caught up, I sat back and drank my coffee and read the story. The twist at the end was fantastic.

Bill Adler's avatar

Thanks, Paul. I'm happy you enjoyed "Ella" and I'm glad this time travel tale could keep you company while you had your coffee.

I was riveted! The slip too far back in time and was a twist I did not see coming!

Bill Adler's avatar

Thank you, Stephanie. I enjoy writing (and reading) time travel tales and I'm glad you liked Ella and the story's twist.

Couldn't stop reading! Really enjoyed, quite a story for Ella to tell the grandkids. There were so many routes my mind went down and I never saw that ending coming...

Bill Adler's avatar

Thank you very much. I'm delighted you enjoyed Ella and I'm glad I could surprise you.

This one takes the prize, Bill. The ending came as a total surprise, and it was ingenious. Kudos!

Bill Adler's avatar

Thank you K.C. I'm delighted to hear that and am smiling.

This might be the best yet, Bill. Wildly imaginative … compelling, urging the reader forward, willing his crazy plan to work … and that twist. Perfect. Fine work!

Bill Adler's avatar

Thank you, Barrie. I love time travel tales (I write them in part because I've run out of time travel stories to read) and I'm glad you enjoyed "Ella" so much.

I had a go at one once … I keep meaning to go back to the idea but you might like it, Bill.

I love time travel stories and this one was really great.

I just wish it had been longer - like reading a bit of the time spent with him and his wife before her death and then some about his time in the past while waiting for the opportunity to save Ella.

Thank you so much for sharing, Bill!

Thanks, Donna. I'm glad you enjoyed "Ella."

I had thought about diving into Scott's backstory, and may do that with a sequel. He's old now, but a lot of what seems to be impossible is possible with time travel.
