When he was six, Jason wanted to be an astronaut. At forty, he got his wish.
The detente between Jason and Gabriela broke down at 2:15 a.m., when Jason, after hours of tossing and turning on sweat-soaked sheets, reset the bedroom thermostat to sixty degrees Fahrenheit.
“I’m freezing.” The words percolated between Gabriela’s blue lips, an unambiguous plea from wife to husband he ignored.
Gabriela snapped the blanket to her side with such velocity that it generated a sonic boom. Jason spun off the bed like a sideways tornado, crashed through the wooden roof, and launched into orbit.
The Blanket War is a 100-word story, also called a centina. Aiming for precisely 100 words makes writing the story harder, but it also lets me look deeper into the well of creativity. I enjoy writing centinas (as well as traditional short stories), and hope you like this story, too.
If you liked The Blanket War, I think you’ll also enjoy my story, Heart’s Stapler.
Love it! You allow the imagination to create the visual. 😀👍
This is great. I love every word of that last paragraph. But I have to wonder if you've been spying on me and my hubby.
