Brilliant! The first part brought back all my torturous memories of gym class. How I hated it! Seriously, it's possible to give kids exercise without putting them through hell. And that was back in the days when kids ran and played baseball and football and things spontaneously.

The second part is how I wish gym class had gone. Maybe if I'd known then what I know now, it would have,

Ahh. The conundrums of school. Fierce teachers were the worst, and I was a good student. I can only imagine what these kids felt.

You’ve brilliantly captured what so many kids hate the most: gym class. Excellent story, Bill—loved how it ended!

I attended parochial school back in the days when gym was not a a requirement, whewww … public schools did have gym classes, but private and parochial schools did not. Some nuns did have us do “bend and stretch, reach for the sky…”, touch your toes, and jumping jacks while standing next to our desks… that was pretty much the extent of it.

Gym class was the worst! But no one ever flew away at my school. 🤣

Great one Bill! I know how Billy feels being the residue that remains after all the cool kids and the jocks are picked first for gym class teams. An awkward age for sure but character-building. Wouldn’t trade those days for anything!

My heart goes out to this kid. It could have been a true story right up to the last paragraph. I think, had I been Billy, I would have gone to the study hall or library every day instead, and just taken the "F". I hated the torture of gym class, too. Your story brought back memories.

Brain plasticity is a thing. I always marvel that when I have a busy schedule, it takes all day. If I don't, it takes all day.
