Say Ahhhh! Great little tale, Bill. Those candies we bought at those little stores, take a paper bag, hand over a few Pennies, leave with a bag full of candy... the 80s :)

Childhood candy is eternal.

I'm glad you enjoyed, Halloween Candy, Alexander.

Haha! I feel that same way about my passwords--clever little windows into my soul, wasted. Great little story! I'm a sucker for time travel :)

I like your way of thinking about passwords. :)

A really fun read. I think I know what inspired this! 😉 Needed some Candy Corn thrown in for good measure! As a kid we used to absolutely clean up with the trick or treating in my neighborhood. Sacks teeming with delicious treats. The only ‘trick’ was hiding the bounty from my Dad! I seriously had to hide it when I got home and I remember being in tears multiple years when he’d get into it and eat large quantities of my hard-earned cavity-makers. Great (bad) memories!

Thanks, Peter. I'm glad you enjoyed Halloween Candy.

I imported candy corn when I first came to Japan, sharing it with Japanese friends who could not imagine that such a thing exists. (And maybe wishing that it didn't.)

Candy and Halloween were powerful elements of my childhood, too.

Parents tell us that they're removing some candy for our own good, but when we grow up we understand the truth, that they still love candy, too.

Haven’t we all contemplated what we would do differently if we had a “do over” and could be a kid again?

Who knew candy cold be a time portal? Hmmm. 🤣

I'd love a do over, but only if I get to skip middle school.

🤣 Besides gym class, I didn’t mind Middle School.

Not everything is as sweet as we think it is in childhood!

Absolutely love this, Bill. The memories woven into the imaginings. You really get to know him well with just a few cleverly woven background notes.

Thank you! Our childhood memories hold fast and power us in ways we can't always imagine.

Yeah. We had one in Canada until the Americans and Britons took over our confectioners by force.

I only know of some of the candies. I am not much of a Halloween person since I didn't grow up here. Feels like the work and candy are intertwined in Peter's life. It's not worth it! Poor dude!

Halloween is a minor holiday in Japan. While there's lots of candy for sale at supermarkets and elsewhere and kids costume events, there's no trick or treating in here.

I used to end up with two shopping bags filled with candy. Maybe a bit too much. Which reminds me: I'm going to the dentist tomorrow. :(

Lickimaids - hadn't thought of those in a lifetime! Imaginative and entertaining, as always. Suddenly, I'm thinking about Tootsie Pops and Sugar Babies (which I loved).

Tootsie Pops! Yes! I miss them and also rock candy.

Most of those candies I have never heard of before- they obviously are not sold here in Canada, at least, because I never see them in the shops.

I see few American candies in Japan during Halloween season. I guess (just guessing) that many countries have their own candy industry and that's what kids know and enjoy.

I felt so bad for Peter. I wanted to tell him, whatever he was chasing wasn't worth giving up everything he held dear. For a moment I thought he'd escaped, could make another try. But I must say, I was a bit confused at the end. Was the whole thing a dream under the anaesthetic? Was it his childhood dentist or current dentist?

I felt badly for Peter too.

He ended up in his childhood dentist's chair.
