I live in a Buddhist country and in the case of a tale like this people would say that Bark was probably the reincarnation of Chloe.

This might sound far fetched but I have adopted puppies shortly after the death of a beloved dog and the puppies have been remarkably like the diseased animal in temperament, likes and dislikes. I have one bitch now called Buck who is so similar in behavior to an diseased bitch called Puppy that the cleaner and other staff actually call her Puppy.

Animals are magical.

Before we adopted Kinmo, our cat who lived in a park, I used to visit her every day, and of course took photos. The photos got around and somebody said Kinmo was the twin of her former cat. (Though we're in Japan and that person is in the US.) It might be.

Poor Chloe.

I can’t say I wouldn’t have done the same thing if I found a puppy in the middle of nowhere. At the very least I’d hold on to the dog until I could get someone else to take care of them.

I would take it in, too. My heart would tell guide me.

Grabbing my tissues, Bill. A mournful, beautiful tale.

Loved the story, Bill. This one hit close to home for me - both literally and figuratively! I’m a short drive from Kingston, NY. I know you used to live in the city, but did you ever live up near the Kingston/Woodstock area? I couldn’t help but wonder as I read this!

Thank you, Justin. I'm glad you liked Old Dog, New Dog.

I know the Woodstock and Kingston area very well. Friends of mine used to live there and my parents had a house off Route 212 for a while. I miss it.

Oh wow! You’re really well connected with the area then. I had no idea! I’m on the opposite side of the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge (east side of the Hudson), but we spend a lot of time in the Kingston area.

Well, if life ever brings you back this way, I owe you a coffee or two from all of these fun stories you write. Until then...this will have to do. ☕️ 😄
