Hi again, Donald. We're back from our summer vacation.
Sometimes, I get into a pattern with a particular story genre or subgenre--time travel for instance, where one idea leads to another. Sometimes, I write sequels. I try to keep my stories short because I think that's what readers enjoy most on Substack: Bite-sized tales that can be enjoyed during morning coffee. But those short tales beg for more, and I know that even before they're published, so I will write a follow-up later on.
Not only does a baby crying signify the beginning of life, it probably reminds Methuselah of the birth of his own children. He wasn’t able to say goodbye to his own kids, so the cries of other people’s children are a close substitute.
Funny how our perspective can change. A baby’s first cry is beautiful and welcome. After that, not so much. Unless you are a million years old. Apparently, humans figured out how to live too long. 😉
My kids are now well beyond the crying age. But I have a cat, which is the same, except that infants don't also jump on your face while you're sleeping if you don't respond immediately.
I think Frederick Pohl wrote some delightful short form stories.w And I bumped into 2-line horror stories on Netflix.. the 2 lines are revealed after the episode.
I'm not inclined to search for short form... I much prefer having your stories come as they may. I would consider other sources as imitations :-)
I like short fiction. Short stories are a satisfying experience for writers and readers as they often capture an entire life or universe in a small space.
I'm glad you're enjoying my stories. A fun one is coming this Sunday.
I like the way you thread your stories to previous stories. Could you share how you do that? Much obliged. We will have to talk sometime

Thank you Donald. I'm traveling right now and I'll reply in detail in a couple of weeks. I'm glad you enjoyed this and my other stories.

Methuselah is all of humanity. He feels all that we feel; he wants all that we want.
Nice story, might check your math on how many years are between 1850 and 2023 though! Love the unexpected ending
I'm glad you enjoyed The Cry Room.
Thanks for spotting the mistake!

We have a cat. Luckily, he doesn’t face jump.

Frederik Pohl is a great science fiction writer.

thanks
To contribute 1, 2 or $10 after a pleasant reading... or just because.
I see. I would like that, too, but the options are limited by the system, so I can't make the amount any smaller.
Thank you for your kind words and thoughts.
"Pouppos"- is that the origin of the derogatory term for Indigneous babies, "papoose"?
Interesting question. I don't think so, but my linguistic knowledge is limited.
That was really good and very original.
Thank you for your kind words, Travis. I'm happy you enjoyed The Cry Room.
Cool idea!
Thanks, Alexa!
That was both fantastic and lovely Super🥰
Thank you, Deirdre. I'm glad you liked The Cry Room. It's one of my favorites.
You've given us three choices.. Alas, none of them fit me. I would like to be able to do one time contributions. thanks for your consideration.
I'm not sure what you're asking. What one-time contributions are you looking to make?
