When you said four hundred or so of the 845 beds I was thinking "No no. This is the UK and all 845 beds would be full with an additional 300 people in the corridors, just like it is now." ๐
My God Bill, that was intense. From the moment she wakes up until she pushes the button. Did you have a stop watch while you were writing it? And then to have the same issue in China! Brilliant.
It would be good to make kid decisions again. Should I go find caterpillars on the shrubs, or check for frog eggs in the pond? Somehow, the sun is always shining on those decisions.
Is there some word play here? Depending on the meaning of football this story goes two very different ways: The Nuclear Football or the Pigskin. Iโve got thoughts, but Iโd like to hear it straight from the author: Mr. Adler?
That was eerie and profoundly good Bill! Would hate to have such a heavy decision to make in such short notice. Something to be said for sleeping on it butโฆ ๐
Yeeps! I need a double dose of romance, please! Somebody pass me the glass of happily ever after! Beautifully written, Bill. Such tension. So unsettling in its virtual possibility.
Bill, that was a great story. Realistic but rushed briefing, disagreements in action to be taken, and fast specific facts given to the President. Loved the tension. You either did a lot of research or have a background in some of this. There have been close calls with nukes before and I'm afraid at some point the cat will have used up its 9 lives. And I'm pretty sure it will come with no warning whatsoever. Excellent read. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, the ending was great!

A real horror story. I was hoping for, 'April Fool Mrs President.'

I hate making decisions. This story has just amplified that many times. Yikes.
