Tony didn’t intend to collect clocks, but after discovering that a battery-operated Seiko positioned dead center on the dining room table kept him from being late for work, he bought another, which he hung on the wall facing his chair, followed by three more for the other walls just in case he couldn’t sit on his favorite seat because the cat was napping there, then two desk clocks for the bathroom to keep both eyes on the time while he brushed his teeth, plus another four for the bedroom, one of which was a retro-style timepiece with Roman numerals he thought was especially attractive, stationing more in strategic spots, until there was no space in his apartment for his wife.
One-sentence stories are a fun, literary art form. I enjoy capturing somebody’s entire life in a single breath.
If you liked this story, I think you’ll also enjoy The Blanket War.
