Seriously, I don't want to be a Luddite, but right now it seems we are marching into the future blindfolded. AI doesn't have to be a boogeyman, but its proponents are proposing a future that no one wants. We don't really know if that future is all a pipe dream, but we do know the machinery to support the pipe dream is real and potentially very destructive to our society and our environment.
AI is being pushed on society and individuals, whether we want it or not. Governments are adopting AI tools, whether they understand them or not. And militaries are pursuing autonomous killing machines powered by AI.
We're beyond "What could go wrong?" A lot will go wrong.
Thanks so much, John. I had fun writing The New Pilot and I’m glad you liked it. (It’s my dream, too, to be at the controls of a 737, but not to travel back in time that way.)
At least I know now when O'Hare was built...
I learned that, too, when researching this story!
Trying to navigate around and out of that place is like trying to do it with Chicago itself...
100 percent that. I amazed O'Hare works at all.
This is good. Death to aay-eye!
Thank you Christopher. AI needs power. We control that energy…right?
HAL "I'm dying Dave" was a puppy next to this one ... scary Jim!
Thank you! Scary is what I like to do (sometimes.)
Sound like something out of "The Twilight Zone."
Thank you, Paul. The Twilight Zone inspires me.
I'm sorry Bill. This did not make me feel better. Now what?
Now what is a good question. The future makes me nervous.

Yep
Lots of "buts" in that paragraph.
Fun read, Bill. Kept me turning. "You called me." was the line that got me. Great short story.

Shudder
Thank you, Virginia.
Stop calling me Shirley!
Truly the greatest airplane movie of all time!
Oh creeepy! And not so sci-fi…eee…🫣 you could write a Reality AI show
Thank you, Elyse. Strange things happen in this world of ours.
Did I enjoy that story? Oh yes, I did. I love all your time travel stories. Please keep them coming. Thank you.
I'm delighted you enjoyed "The New Pilot." I am writing more time travel stories. I love them, too.
Yikes! What an imagination you have, Bill.
Thank you, Sharron!
