Thanks on both. I tried to create an image of two people jumping off a cliff together, but after a couple dozen tries, I wasn't satisfied, so I went with an lava explosion. I think that works for the story, too.
After Keiko jumped, I was so tense until the end of the story. I was convinced that Sam had purposefully lied just to trick Bobby into doing something horrible. The fact that it was an honest mistake simultaneously makes me feel better and worse. If Sam had been right, being caught in a rain of molten iron would be a horrific way to die so Bobby’s lie would have been a mercy, but Sam was wrong! Oh my god!
Great story (though I saw the ending coming) and great image!

It does indeed!
Whoa! What an ending ... :(
Thanks, Christina. It took time to get to here, but I'm happy with the way the story turned out.

I'm torn about this story. I can't imagine any worse ending, but I felt it was the ending that had to be. I'm sad for all the characters.
I'm sad for them too! It was a fitting ending though.
It didn't quite work out they way anyone expected. I'm glad you enjoyed the ending.
Two things I learned. Never predict the end of the world. And never trick your wife into killing herself. 😉
Those are two important lessons.
Yeah, once Billy confirmed Keiko's death, I pretty much guessed they'd needed a mistake. Still, what a mistake for Billy to live with!
They learned the lessons too late.
Oh bugger.
Some mistakes are terrible, horrible mistakes.
I did anticipate the ending, and you make science fun! Good job, Bill. Will you write a follow-up story? To give us some “closure”?
Thanks, Jenise. I'm delighted you enjoyed Till Trust Do Us Part. I sometimes write sequels for my stories and might for this one, too.
If you do, I’ll eagerly read it. 😊
