I love how somehow you make Will a bit sympathetic. Sometimes you just want a glass of water! Excellent execution of the one sentence story! Not a wasted word or clause!

Thanks, Jason. We've all been Will in our lives (but fortunately we have better control.)

Lol! Until you pointed it out I didn’t realize it was all in one sentence; I was just wrapped up in the story and didn’t pay any attention to that part. Anyhow, hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, Scott. I'm glad you liked Still or Sparkling Water?

I'm on the mend, shaking off a little more of the virus' effects every day.

I've known situations like that. I can empathize with Will. This is the first I've ever heard of 1-sentence stories, other than 8 or 10 word ones. You managed it well.

Thanks, Virginia. I'm glad you enjoyed this little tale.

One-sentence stories are fun to write, though they take a lot of drafts to get right.

Awesome! Need to keep that handgun handy when visiting...

Thanks, Sunil!

I think so, too. ;-)

Thought of a backstory for this; Will was there to kill someone at the dinner party. Hope realized this and was trying to stall for time. Will recognized what she was doing and shot her for it.

Get well soon!

Thanks for your get well wishes. I'm on the slow post-covid mend to wellness.

I like your backstory idea!

Yea, I didn’t realize it was one sentence either. I was too busy wondering where the story was going. 😂 What a bang-up ending, Bill!!

Thanks, Jenise. I like writing one-sentence stories and I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Oh, and if you really want run-on sentences, read Bleak House. But not while you're suffering with Covid. The brain can only handle so much at one time.

Expand full comment

Thanks. I'll check out Bleak House. I'm slowing mending, so I think I can now. :)

Hmmm...here is the question. Does Covid make you a better writer, or just shorten your stories cause you don't know if you're going to survive the Covid monster? Either way, loved this!

Feel better!

I'm glad you enjoyed Still or Sparkling Water, Cyn.

I think covid makes me a more tired writer, but even when sick it's hard to stay away from the keyboard. Thanks for your well wishes.

Oh, yes!

Ah Bill - that is a classic & sooooo relatable!😂🥰

Real funny! How many choices were there at the gun store? I hope it was one they show on the funnies with a flag popping out.

Thanks, Winifred.

Yes, too many choices everywhere!

Ha, I was not expecting that ending! I really enjoy your one-sentence stories, Bill. They’re very creative and clever.

I hope you feel better with each passing day. Get well soon!

Thanks, Justin. I'm on the mend. It's a slow walk to wellness, but I feel a little better every day. If I could only make our cat understand that no matter how much she meows, I'm not playing with her at 4 a.m.

I'm glad you liked Still or Sparkling Water?

That was very thoughtful to ask all of those questions people do have preferences. Shooting her was way out of line. she was only doing her job to the fullest. You need more patience in life.

It was not the best of dinner dates for either of them, that's for sure.

Yowza! Too many questions!!

I may not have all the answers ;-)

I'm glad you liked the story, Christina.

The last three words were so unexpected I barked out a loud laugh and dribbled my coffee all over my pajamas. So clever, Bill. Thanks for giving my day a great start.

Thanks, Sharron. I'm sorry I made you spill your coffee, though ;).

“and at that moment he sighed and shot her.” How rude. I didn’t know Covid was still a thing. I hope you feel better soon.

Next time, he should bring his own water.

Thank you. This is my first time with covid, the un-fun virus.
